The most difficult and complicated part of the writing process is the beginning.


Brain power improves by brain use, just as our bodily strength grows with exercise. And there is no doubt that a large proportion of the female population, from school days to late middle age, now have very complicated lives indeed.

When all else fails, complicate matters.

We have a writing process that's very much you try to create the character in a complicated way and then you let the story lead you to discovering who the character is in a natural way.

You know, one of the things I like about this world, or at least I like about the way we're presenting this world, is these issues are terribly complicated - not nearly as black and white as we're led to believe.

It must be a balance in everything we do, not too much of everything, keep it simple, not complicated.

It's very complicated to literally put your family on TV.
