I'm not some weirdo depressed daughter that's afraid of the world - that locks herself in her room all day.

The only concept or experience or core belief that I can attribute my other-ness to is that I just started out a weirdo and I stayed a weirdo. And it took me a long time to embrace my outsidership and see it as a strength rather than a weakness.

In my early career I was sort of anti-drag. I said, 'Drag is dumb and boring, and I want to be an effing weirdo and go crazy and rebel.' But now it's like I've come to respect and understand how deep and traditional drag as an art form is.

I suppose being a bit of an antisocial weirdo definitely honed my skills as a soloist. It gave me a lot more opportunities to solo lots of easy routes, which in turn broadened my comfort zone quite a bit and has allowed me to climb the harder things without a rope that I've done now.

I've always been a bit of an outsider... I just pop up, kind of. I have a life. I have children - I have three children - and I love the craft of acting; I'm dedicated to that... that's always meant more to me than just hanging out... I've always been kind of a weirdo in that respect, but if the role is good, I'm going to do it.

I know what it's like to be an outcast in society. I know what it's like to want to find strength, and more importantly, I know what it's like to find that internal strength and rise out of the pain of being just sort of a weirdo.

I was fortunate enough to be living in Hollywood, CA, when the underground punk rock music scene started. It was a small group of artists, misfits and weirdos, where everyone was welcomed and encouraged to express themselves.

Fashion embraces the weirdos. They're into that. There are always young people that people in fashion are interested in. You know, youth and vitality and energy - it brings something different.
