There shouldn't be any censorship on making a film.


Once you permit those who are convinced of their own superior rightness to censor and silence and suppress those who hold contrary opinions, just at that moment the citadel has been surrendered.

Making independent films is liberating. It eliminates self-censorship, which mainstream films are infected with due to commercial priorities.

Iranian filmmakers are not passive. They fight whenever they can, as creative expression means a lot to them. The restrictions and censorship in Iran are a bit like the British weather: one day it's sunny, the next day it's raining. You just have to hope you walk out into the sunshine.

I'm very much interested in music specifically and wanted to make a film about it, but not in an atmosphere of censorship.


Pontius Pilate was the first great censor and Jesus Christ the first great victim of censorship.
